Selecting the right stair nosing for your steps is crucial for safety, aesthetic appeal, and durability. Stair nosings, the metal or rubber strips that cover the front edge of stairs, not only provide traction but protect the underlying material from wear. When choosing the appropriate nosing, it is essential to ensure a snug fit against the step to prevent any lifting or rocking during use, which can lead to accidents or increased wear over time. There are four primary stair nosing shapes to consider when selecting the right one for your steps

1 : Square Face This profile is characterized by a straight edge that provides a flush finish with the stair tread. The square nose is ideal for standard steps and gives a clean look while offering excellent traction. It is particularly effective for residential and commercial settings where a uniform appearance is desired.

2 : Rake Back is a specialist stair edging designed specifically for stairs where the riser slopes backwards, typically at an angle of 83 degrees

3 : Kinked Face: With a distinctive angled profile, kinked nosings can adapt to various stair shapes, including square and some rake back stairs. This versatility makes kinked face profiles a popular choice, as they can fit snugly against the edges of the steps. Ideal for environments where aesthetics and safety are equally important, kinked nosings help to guide the footfall and reduce slipperiness.

4 : Bullnose: Bullnose stair nosing features a more pronounced, rounded edge, extending beyond the edge of the stair tread. This profile is not only aesthetically pleasing but also enhances safety by providing more surface area for foot contact. Bullnose nosings are commonly used in commercial spaces and can effectively accommodate both straight and curved stair designs.

Trans-Edge - heavy-duty aluminium stair edgings incorporating an extremely durable, slip-resistant insert material.
