SPORTS HALL FLOORING
Essential Consideration: Floor Protection
If your multi-purpose sports hall is also used for non-sporting events—like exams, assemblies, or social gatherings—protective druggets (carpet rolls) or heavy-duty interlocking tiles are vital to prevent scuffs, stiletto damage, and wear on expensive timber surfaces
SPORTS HALL FLOORING
HARDWOOD
Key Benefits & Considerations
Unmatched Lifespan: Solid wood floors can be sanded and refinished 8 to 10 times, lasting up to 50 years with correct care.
Retractable Seating Compatibility: Premium batten systems can be reinforced to bear high loads without shifting or surface tracking.
Multi-Use Limitations: While excellent for basketball, netball, and assemblies, timber requires strict moisture control and can be scuffed if heavy non-sporting furniture is dragged carelessly.
HARDWOOD
1. Hardwood Best for: Basketball, volleyball, and dance studios.Details: The traditional gold standard. Typically made of Maple, Beech, or Oak. It requires a sprung subfloor for "area-elastic" shock absorption. It provides excellent ball bounce and aesthetics but comes with a higher price tag and routine maintenance needs.
Oak: Known for its traditional look and toughness, providing a beautiful aesthetic for multi-use halls.

CORE TIMBER SPECIES
Maple: Offers a light, uniform grain structure that is highly wear-resistant, making it the top choice for basketball and dance.
Beech: Delivers extreme structural strength and high shock resistance, often press-dried for enhanced dimensional stability.

POLYURETHANE RESIN

Polyurethane (PU) resin sports flooring is a seamless, highly elastic, and durable system commonly installed in schools and leisure centres. It combines a shock-absorbing rubber base mat with a liquid-poured PU topcoat. It provides exceptional impact resistance, optimal ball bounce, and easy multi-sport line marking.
Key Benefits
Multi-Purpose Use: Ideal for everything from basketball and five-a-side to non-sport events like exams and assemblies.
Safety & Ergonomics: The built-in shock absorption reduces joint strain for athletes.Seamless & Hygienic: No joints or cracks for dirt to gather in, making it easy to clean and maintain.
Longevity: Highly resistant to heavy foot traffic, dropped weights, and sports equipment.
Installation Process Installing a PU floor requires specialized pouring and takes several days to cure:
Sub-floor Preparation: The existing concrete or asphalt base must be clean, dry, and primed.
Rubber Base Mat: A prefabricated granular rubber shock pad is glued down.
PU Application: Self-leveling polyurethane resin is poured over the mat to create a smooth, flat surface.
Wear Coat & Markings: A textured wear-resistant topcoat is applied, followed by painted line markings for various court sports.
Performance Standards High-quality PU systems should generally meet European athletic flooring standards to ensure safety, grip, and ball rebound:EN 14904 (Standard for indoor multi-sports surfaces)DIN 18032-2 (German standard for elastic sports hall surfaces)

PolyTurf Plus Pad & Pour is a seamless sports floor that is designed to withstand heavy bleachers, tables, and chairs with maximum durability. It also provides a high quality playing surface with shock absorption, precise game line markings, and stain resistance. With numerous colors and shock pads to choose from, PolyTurf Plus Pad & Pour can be customized to meet almost any sports flooring need. It is an effective gym floor for schools, training facilities, community centers, and fitness centers.

1 – Water-Based Aliphatic Coating:
This spray or roller-applied coating provides optimal game performance and stain resistance.
3 – Formulated Elastomeric Resin:
This resin layer provides exceptional ball rebound and extra durability to the PolyTurf Plus Pad & Pour system.
4 – Two-Component Seal Layer:
The primary characteristic of PolyTurf Plus Pad & Pour is its seamless playing surface. This coating layer seals shock pad pores for a smooth and seamless gym floor.
5 – Recycled Rubber Shock Pad:
Made of 100% recycled rubber, this shock pad base layer provides cushioning and shock absorption. It is available in 4 mm, 7 mm, and 9 mm thicknesses.
2 – Chemically Bonded Game Lines:
Meticulously applied polyurethane marking paint creates precise and permanent game lines.

VINYL
3. Vinyl Best for: Schools, fitness studios, and multipurpose arenas.Details: Available in rolls or tiles. It offers great versatility, varying levels of shock absorption, and slip resistance. Vinyl requires less maintenance than wood and is available in many thicknesses and designs.
Interlocking, easy-to-install tiles perfect for multi-use venues where temporary or easily replaceable flooring is needed

VINYL

Point-Elastic Vinyl: Cushions impact precisely where pressure is applied. Ideal for schools, multi-purpose halls, and community centers, as it offers balanced performance for diverse activities.
Cushioned Sheet Vinyl (Rolls): The standard for heavy-use multi-sport halls. The continuous rolls mean fewer seams and an even surface for sports like badminton, basketball, and netball.Modular Vinyl Tiles:
Combined-Elastic Vinyl: Features a dual-layer system that delivers both point-elastic shock absorption and area-elastic load distribution. This creates high-end athletic performance favored for professional competition.

Custom Formats (Sled Tracks & Turf)Best for: Functional fitness and sprint lanes.Details: Though technically artificial turf, these often use a dense rubber backing to absorb impact and act as sled lanes in commercial settings.
Interlocking Rubber TilesBest for: Home gyms, CrossFit boxes, and free-weight zones.Details: Usually 500 mm × 500 mm or 1 m × 1 m in size.Thickness: 15 mm to 60 mm.Key Feature: "Jigsaw" teeth along the edges allow for a glue-free, DIY installation. Thicker variants easily handle heavy dumbbell or barbell drops
Rolled Rubber Flooring Best for: Large commercial spaces, cardio zones, and functional fitness areas.Thickness: Usually 2 mm to 12 mm.Key Feature: Offers a seamless appearance, high durability under foot traffic, and good support for heavy cardio machines. It requires less waste during installation but often requires professional adhesive
Acoustic Rubber TilesBest for: Olympic weightlifting platforms and commercial heavy-drop zones.Thickness: 40 mm to 53 mm (or more).Key Feature: Designed to heavily isolate vibration and impact noise from radiating through multi-story buildings or hard subfloors. They are engineered with an extra-dense core
Rubber Shock Pads (Underlayment)Best for: Multi-use sports halls and resilient fitness floors.Details: Used as a base layer beneath timber, vinyl, or polyurethane finishes.Key Feature: Provides the necessary biomechanical properties (force reduction and energy return) to prevent joint injuries during high-impact sports
4. RubberBest for: Weightlifting, functional training, and general gyms.Details: Highly shock-absorbent and handles heavy impacts well. While generally not the best for court sports (due to high friction and less predictable ball bounce), it is the premier choice for fitness zones
