MEDICAL CLEAN ROOMS

Flooring Type Key Advantage Best Medical Cleanroom Application
Epoxy Resin Zero joints, extreme chemical resistance Compounding pharmacies, bio-labs
Polyurethane Thermal shock resistance, slight flex Washdown bays, high-temp sterilization zones
Sheet Vinyl Cost-effective, simple coving integration Operating theatres, surgical cleanrooms
Rubber Sheets Ergonomic, acoustic comfort, durable High-traffic corridors, research labs
ESD Systems Prevents electrostatic discharge Imaging suites, medical device assembly
1. Resinous Coatings (Epoxy & Polyurethane)Seamless Epoxy Resin:
The most popular choice for high-classification sterile environments. It creates a completely fluid-applied, hard-wearing plastic surface over concrete with zero joints. It offers excellent resistance to aggressive medical chemicals and heavy wheeled equipment loads. Polyurethane Resin: Similar to epoxy but offers superior flexibility and thermal shock resistance. It is preferred in areas exposed to rapid temperature shifts (e.g., steam cleaning or hot-water washdowns) and is slightly softer underfoot.
2. Sheet Flooring
Homogeneous Sheet Vinyl: Highly valued in surgical operating theatres and ISO Class 5–8 zones. The sheets are heat-welded at the seams and integrated with cap-and-cove skirting to curve up the wall, eliminating corners where pathogens breed. Brands like the Altro Hospital Flooring Range or Tarkett offer built-in bacteriostats.
Rubber Sheet Flooring: Naturally hypoallergenic, slip-resistant, and highly durable against foot and trolley traffic. It is cold-welded and offers exceptional acoustic dampening and ergonomic comfort for medical staff working long shifts.
3. Specialised Systems
Anti-Static / ESD Flooring: Essential in cleanrooms containing sensitive diagnostic equipment, medical devices, or electronics. These are available as conductive/dissipative epoxies or vinyl tiles embedded with conductive carbon chips to safely ground static charges.
Raised Access Flooring: Primarily utilized in ultra-sterile, high-class cleanrooms (ISO Class 1 to 5) where perforated floor panels are necessary to facilitate unidirectional, vertical laminar airflow to sweep away micro-particles.

MEDICAL CLEAN ROOM FLOORING TYPES
Medical cleanroom flooring requires seamless, non-porous, and chemical-resistant surfaces that prevent particle shedding and withstand harsh disinfection protocols.
